Lets talk about getting an official real estate license to sell Chicago real estate. To be licensed to sell Chicago real estate you have to take a state approved class that has 45 hours of classroom time. After you complete the forty five class room hours, you will be given a test. If you pass that classroom test (almost everyone does) you then are qualified to sit for the Illinois state exam. This is the big one. The test is given in two categories; state and national. I you fail the first time taking it, you are allowed to take it two more times. If you fail the test three times, you have to take the forty five class hours all over again.
To take the class, the cost is roughly $300 and it can take you as fast as one week to get though it. Though the test is not easy, it’s not insurmountable. I know many people that have passed and failed this and it just comes down to study and focus, not intelligence. Now you’ve done it. You applied for the class, went through it and now passed the Illinois real estate exam and you have your license. What next?
You now qualify to legally sell Chicago real estate with whatever company you want. Most real estate companies are looking for season veterans but there are enough that like rookies as well. It gives the real estate firms the ability to mold a rookie versus bringing in season veterans with bad habits that are hard to break. When choosing a Chicago real estate company to work for, interview several and ask a ton of questions. Before you know it, you’ll find the right real estate company to get started with.
