It’s Official: Chicago’s South Loop is Red Hot!
As if anyone needed more convincing, Chicago's South Loop has just been dubbed the "hottest neighborhood in the country" by our friends at Chicago Magazine. That's right, folks, the entire country.
"Booming Chicago real estate, hip restaurants, exploding population" shouts the big and bold cover of the June, 2007 edition now on the streets. Turn inside and enjoy 10 full pages of photos, stories and profiles. There's even a walking tour!  Â
OwnACondo.com is pleased to be in the thick of things in the South Loop. We are proud to be representing 15th Street Lofts, right on State Street, at 1503 South. We're also representing a fantastic individual condo at 1841 S. Calumet with a stunning lakefront view.
Newcomers and even long-time city residents may wonder about the boundaries of South Loop. Like any new community that is emerging from a completely different landscape, the boundaries are sometimes liquid and debateable. Chicago Magazine, however, offers an apt description: Congress Parkway on the north, Cermak Road on the south, the lakefront on the east and the Chicago River on the west. Will this change? Probably. But that's the nature of a growing neighborhood.
As a lifelong Chicagoan, your OwnACondo.com blog editor recalls the South Loop in the early 1980s while working a delivery job in college. The change has been remarkable, from aging and often unutilized warehouses, rusty railroad yards and crumbling infrastructure to new lofts, skyscrapers and trendy eateries. Do you have a story about South Loop, then or now? Share it here, but let's not just trip down memory lane, let's plan a visit to South Loop soon!
