Loft Style living in Chicago

Loft style living seems to be the new trend in certain parts of Chicago. Because they are so new, many people have different opinions as to whether or not loft style living would suitable for their lifestyle. There are many pros and cons to loft style living and although many people enjoy lofts, many people do not appreciate them at all.  Loft style condos tend to have a lot of open space, high ceilings and cement and brick interiors. They are typically found in older parts of town that were most likely ignored. Therefore, the neighborhoods often are not that desirable, however; are in close proximity to the city.

Loft style living is known to boast open space. Some people enjoy the large open space. Young single that work at home often enjoy having a large open space to live in. You can work in one part of the house and not feel cut off from any of the other areas. Open space lofts can be great for many other reasons as well. The open space in lofts is great for anything from making a mini art studio to a dance floor for parties. You can see and enjoy all of your guests and the music can reach any corner of the room. Roommates and families tend to stay away from loft style condos for these exact reasons and many others. A large open space in not well suited for sharing. There is not much privacy in lofts and sound seems to travel a lot throughout the loft. The lack of walls and separate spaces can be a challenge for those who would like to do their own thing and not be disturbed.

The Environment is very unique in loft style living as well. The buildings tend to be a younger crown and have a large percentage of rentals. The condos most likely were bought when a person was young and then as they grew older, they rented it out. Also, the interior tends to be a colder environment. Many young singles think it’s cool and interestingly enough much of the older generation feels the opposite. In colder climates the open space of the Chicago condo lofts can be hard to keep warm and heated. The ceilings are very high; therefore the heating bills can prove quite expensive.

Because loft style living seems to appeal to a very specific crowd, Chicago Lofts may not be the best choice for an investment. The market demographic is financially the weakest. Not only that, but there are a small percentage of high end buyers that would gravitate towards lofts. For those of you who are looking to purchase a new condo in Chicago, just do some research and see if Loft style Living is for you.

Chicago Loft Condominiums

Once the exclusive space of choice for artists, musicians, photographers and other creative arts people, Chicago loft condominiums have become hugely popular with singles, couples and sometimes even families from all walks of life who enjoy a living environment that is distinctly urban in nature.

Loft dwellers can choose the space they want from raw to sophisticated. Increasingly, lofts are outfitted with many deluxe features so buyers can have comfort and individuality while still maintianing an industrial/commercial look with high ceilings, oversized windows, exposed heating/cooling ducts and more.

The amenities loft buyers can choose are virtually endless: carpeting, hardwood floors, fixtures and appliances from basic to high-end, cable TV, high-speed internet connectivity, an open or divided floor plan, etc. Many lofts also have balconies or terraces that look out onto the urban landscape where the dwelling is located.

Loft living has become so popular that some newly constructed buildings are styled right from the beginning to look like a loft conversion, even though the property has no industrial or commercial past. When this occurs, it is typically found in areas which are gentrifying and there is not enough existing loft-style buildings to satisfy the demands of buyers who want to live in that particular locale.

A walk through many Chicago loft condominiums reveals a past in which business and manufacturing demanded massive timber supports, thick walls and floors to bear heavy loads, and locations near rail lines, waterways and/or major thoroughfares. One of the many attractions of loft living might be the rumble of a commuter train right outside the window. Because these old buildings had to be located relatively close to the central business district, Chicago loft condominiums are also deisrable because of their proximity to public transportation, downtown, cultural attractions and more.

Sometimes the buildings have direct statements to their past in brick and mortar right at the front of the structure, preserved to this day. These names often reflect the names of the founders and/or what type of business the firm was engaged in. It's a piece of history that many loft dwellers enjoy.

Chicago loft condominiums come in a wide variety of styles and prices. Rent-to-own is even available in some cases, even if your credit score might not be the best right now. Some feature wide-open space, ready for a buyer to customize as desired, while others are already well-equipped with rooms and all amenities included. If this type of exciting urban living interests you, be sure to contact our Chicago loft condominium specialists by email or by phone at 866-696-2266.

Why Buy a Loft?

Windows stretch out of reach, hardwood floors, exposed brick, huge ceilings, many times as high as twenty feet and its smack dab in the middle of just about every convenience.

Lofts in Chicago for sale vary from tiny little cubby holes for students to giant two and three bedroom, two and three story lofts that would blow you away.  There are so many choices and new projects opened, that just about anyone can find something of their liking.  The advantages of a loft over a condo or an apartment are several.  One is the feel of the loft.  It’s definitely different than living in a dry walled boxy space.  Lofts definitely have the city feel apartments don’t have and they are in just about every neighborhood of Chicago.
