One way to get yourself into a “state” that supports any outcome you want to achieve is to act “as if” you were already there. Acting “as if” is most effective when you put your physiology in the “state” you’d be in if you already were successful.

The difference between those who fail to achieve their goals in life and those who succeed is the difference between those who cannot put themselves in a supportive state and those who can consistently put themselves in a state that supports them in their achievements.

Identities are powerful. By giving yourself an identity or label, you can create an emotion that is incredible.

As an example, instead of thinking of yourself as a salesperson, how about labeling yourself a “treasure hunter” looking for the home that will change people’s lives.

Think of great people or fictional characters and bring that emotion to your daily activities. For the sports fans out there, be “Rocky” and fight through your challenges like he would. There are thousands of identities you can attach yourself with.

Do the rocking chair experiment.

Go to a quiet place in your home and sit for five minutes alone with your eyes closed imagining that you are 103 yrs old, looking back on your life.

Who do you see in it? What children are there, what grandchildren and great grandchildren do you see? How did your life turn out? Where is your current home? Did you make a difference in people’s lives? Did you get what you wanted out of life?

Go to the end of your life for five minutes, feel it, internalize it.

You’ll open your eyes with a new perspective.
